Max, 23, around 120 BASE jumps, including 50 wingsuit, is doing a 2-way from an exit he knows very well. He jumped many times from that spot during the whole winter season, with and without wingsuit. This jump is a 350m cliff that gives access to a total 700m until landing into a large grass field. The weather is good. They both did a perfect patrol flight until the opening. Max was higher than his mate who pulled at normal height and lost eye contact. During his opening he saw Max passing by, arms on his back, apparently falling fast and trying to reach his PC in his leg pouch. Max impacted the talus at full speed with his PC in. There seems to be no reason for this accident. Max had this V3 since a few jumps, and his preceeding V2 also had a leg pouch. bfl-footer footer BFL |

Then the next day, Tuesday May 3rd around 10-11 am he was doing his second jump, got off fine, but then apparently was not stable enough, did not track well and started to open too late just when he hit the wall, his helmet with the camera falling off his head and down on the ground, the chute opened from the impact, he dragged down a bit along the cliff and then stopped his back on the cliff, facing the outside, his system holding him from falling all the way down. Did not answer to the radio calls from his friends, they called the rescue team who came swiftly within minutes but then it took them some time to get to him on the cliff. Once reached by the rescue team, pronounced dead – severe head, face and body damage, apparently died immediately on impact. He was a great and very bright guy loved by all of his friends, colleagues and family Coming from Evgeny chernatskiy's brother in law.. bfl-footer footer BFL |
| Posted: 04 Sep 2012 12:40 AM PDT Date: June, 3, 2011 Nationality: French Object Type: Earth Location: Itw, Brento, Italy COD: Strike (Canopy) Clothes / Suit: Normal Clothes Description: line twist and off heading talus-wall strike coming from a friend: Michel jumped from Brento and after few seconds of free fall, he tracked more toward the right side of the cliff, where the height is lower because some pilars are over there. He pulled his PC close to the wall, his canopy opened normally but had probably some line twists driving him directly toward the wall. He hit the wall and slid very violently all along the wall down to the talus 1300 ft lower. The rescue helicopter was quickly there but found Michel already dead. | Posted: 04 Sep 2012 12:28 AM PDT Date: December 21, 2009 Nationality: English Object Type: Earth Location: Murrenfluh (Via Ferrata/ Mighty Penis), Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland COD: Strike (Canopy) Clothes / Suit: Wingsuit Description: Darren was ready for a wingsuit jump from the Pro BASE Race ramp at Murrenfluh (Via Ferrata/ Mighty Penis). It was wintertime and therefore very icy on the exit point. He had a solid stance as he was wearing crampons which is typical there in the winter. As he intended to leap off he bent forward shifting his weight forward but the crampons were only attached to the center of the shoe sole. As he pushed off, all his weight was on the leather bootie portion of the wingsuit and his left leg slipped backwards. The slip resulted in a left banked head-down exit which led into over-rotation into an uncontrolled drop. After about 4 seconds Darren did an emergency pull inside the overhung section of the cliff but the opening ended unlucky in an off-heading facing the wall. Nobody can say for sure if he had an additional problem like a line twist at that point. Almost right after the canopy opened Darren had a cliff strike from which he never recovered. He slipped along the icy cliff face another 400m until he reached the talus with no life signs anymore. The canopy was ripped into pieces no longer able to suspend a person. Darren had unfortunately left his helmet in his hotel so his head had been unprotected during the cliff strike. This may have caused an instant unconsciousness which kept him from fighting to clear the off heading. Second he was wearing a tight wingsuit and the cliff strike appeared 1-2 seconds after canopy inflation. Obviously this was not enough time to clear the arms completely to react adequate on the canopy's bad heading. It's not know if he released his arm wings by the emergency handles during the rotating drop. This shows in some way tragic how small the margin of an uncontrolled wingsuit exit is, even more when it is totally by surprise. Footwear is important for both landing as well as approach. Different crampons may have kept this unfortunate accident from occurring. bfl-footer footer BFL |

Base jumpers at low altitudes often use a static line, which connects the jumper to the base, Groves said. As the jumper falls, the chute opens and detaches from the cord. The highest point of Big Brutus, the boom, is 160 feet. Groves said Mosley was found near Big Brutus' shovel, and authorities believe he had been standing at the top of the boom, which is located above the shovel. Although there are steps up to the boom, public access at that point has been closed for several years, Groves said. Groves said it wasn't immediately apparent whether Mosley was trying to attempt a static-line jump. He said Cherokee County authorities continue to investigate the incident, including whether Mosley might have intentionally attempted a non-static line jump or whether he might have fallen before he had a chance to set up his jump. "There was no line or evidence that's what he was trying to do, stretch out the chute before he actually jumped," Groves said. "Especially with low altitudes, once you jump, your chute doesn't always have time to catch the air." Mosley's body was found late Saturday morning by an employee of the Big Brutus complex and was taken to Topeka for an autopsy. footer BFL |
